The Identity Ledger

Losing a role hurts more than it should when the title has become part of the answer to who you are. This page is a practical inventory, done before a transition forces the question on a worse day. Twenty minutes, one pen, no audience.

NSight Works

1. The Business Card Column

Title, employer, credentials, the wins that show up in your bio. Everything that would change if the role ended tomorrow.

2. The Whole Inventory

Identities that survive a title change: mentor, builder, parent, friend, athlete, maker, neighbor, student. Aim for eight. The first four come easily; the last four are the finding.

3. What Each One Needs

Circle the three identities from column two that matter most. For each, answer one question: what does this identity need from your next chapter that the current one isn't giving it?

4. The Values Underneath

Recall two moments you felt most yourself at work. What value was being honored? Then two moments of persistent friction. What value was being overridden? The overridden ones are usually the non-negotiables for whatever comes next.

Your values didn't leave. They're still there, waiting for you to stop overriding them. You build a better next chapter from the whole inventory, not just the professional column.
